About the Area:
Attractions
Watered by the River Henares, Guadalajara has a long history linked to the career of the Dukes of Infantado in the capital of La Alcarria. With it's palaces, gardens and historic monuments there is plenty to occupy the visitor. Highlights include:
Museo de la Ciudad - This excellent museum contains exhibits spanning the whole of Guadalajara's history. Items on display include Spanish armaments, local artifacts and equestrian paraphernalia. Admission is free of charge.
Lienzo Charro de Jalisco - This is the town's rodeo arena and is where Mexican cowboys, known as charros, entertain crowds with their riding skills and lasso work. Every Sunday at Noon there are shows and competitions. This is one of the biggest weekly attractions in Gaudalajara.
Museo de las Artes de la Universidad de Guadalajara - This museum hosts a range of important traveling exhibitions, often featuring contemporary artists from all over the Americas. The museum is also filled with Orozco murals, including the Man, Creator and Rebel and The People and Their False Leaders.
Selva Magica - This Theme Park is a great place to take the children on a fun day out. It has 35 rides, including rollercoasters; bumper cars; and many more attractions that will keep the children entertained for hours. There is also a restaurant and snack bar located on the premises. Guadalajara Zoo is another excellent place to take the children for some fun, while learning about animals. The zoo houses a wide range of animals from Mexico, the Americas and other places around the world. You can either walk or take a tram ride through the zoo.
